Spinach To Dark Chocolate, Foods Women Should Eat During Menstruation.

Understanding the Impact of Diet on Menstrual Health: Insights from Dr MGR College's Workshop Menstruation is a natural part of a woman's life, but it can come with a host of uncomfortable symptoms such as cramps, body aches, mood swings, and bloating. These monthly distresses can significantly impact a woman's quality of life. However, it's not widely known that diet plays a crucial role in either exacerbating or alleviating these symptoms. Proper nutrition is not only essential for overall health but also for maintaining hormonal balance, which is pivotal in regulating the menstrual cycle. Recognising the importance of dietary choices during menstruation,

Dr MGR College of Arts and Science in the Villupuram district recently conducted a workshop for the history department's students. This event was part of an integrated child development programme aimed at educating young women on how to manage menstrual discomfort through diet. The workshop highlighted that during menstruation, women should focus on consuming iron-rich foods. Menstruation leads to the loss of iron, and replenishing this mineral is vital. Foods such as spinach, red meat, lentils, and fortified cereals can help in maintaining the required iron levels in the body. Additionally, calcium-rich foods were recommended to reduce menstrual cramps, with dairy products, leafy greens, and fortified plant milks being excellent sources. Another key point discussed was the importance of changing sanitary pads regularly, ideally four times a day, to maintain hygiene and prevent infections. The attendees were also advised never to skip breakfast, as starting the day with a nutritious meal can help manage energy levels and mood throughout the day. The workshop also touched upon critical social issues, emphasising the role of the attendees as informed members of society. The Department of Social Welfare informed participants about the emergency number 1908, which should be called immediately if they become aware of any instances of sexual harassment or child marriage in their vicinity. This educational session at Dr MGR College serves as a reminder of the significant impact that informed dietary choices can have on managing menstrual health. It also underscores the importance of integrating such valuable knowledge into educational curriculums, empowering young women to take control of their health and wellbeing. As we move forward, it's essential to continue these conversations and spread awareness about menstrual health and nutrition. By doing so, we can help alleviate the distressing symptoms many women face and promote a more informed and healthy society. ---

This blog post aims to provide valuable insights into the role of diet in menstrual health, inspired by the workshop conducted by Dr MGR College of Arts and Science. It is important to note that while dietary changes can help manage symptoms, they are not a substitute for medical advice. Women experiencing severe menstrual symptoms should consult a healthcare professional.

Remember, every woman's body is different, and what works for one may not work for another. It's about finding the balance that works for you.
